  Rob is putting his things in a box. Did he quit* his job? No! Don’t worry*. He is just playing a joke* on Alex. Today is April Fools’ Day. Friends can play jokes on one another today. Create* a plan for your joke. You want your joke to be good. Don’t be an April fool! Don’t be fooled*.


 


Conversation A


(in the office)


Alex:     What are you doing, Rob?


Rob:     Oh, hi, Alex. I’m putting my things in this box.


Alex:     Why?


Rob:     I quit*.


Alex:     You what?


Rob:     I quit. Today is my last day.


Alex:     What? No! You can’t do that!


Rob:     Sure, I can. Carol and I talked this morning.


Alex:     But . . .


Rob:     April fool!


 


Conversation B


Alex:     Wait. Really? It’s a joke*?


Rob:     Yes, don’t worry*. I didn’t quit. Today is April Fools’ Day!


Alex:     That’s right! And you really fooled* me! 


Rob:     You and your friends can play jokes on one another today.


Alex:     Right.


Rob:     So be careful. Don’t let someone fool you again!


Alex:     OK. Maybe I can play a joke on someone else.


 


Conversation C (in the Jungle Café) Susie:   What are you doing, Alex?


Alex:     Hi, Susie. I’m creating* something.


Susie:   Oh? What?


Alex:     A plan for a joke. Today is April Fools’ Day.


Susie:   Oh, did Rob play a joke on you?


Alex:     Yes! Did he play a joke on you?


Susie:   Yes. Let’s play a joke on Rob together.


Alex:     That’s a great idea.

  April Fool’s Day is a day for pranks and fun. It’s a great day to laugh with your friends. Jim likes to play pranks on people. But he’s careful*, too. He doesn’t like mean pranks. Taylor played a joke on Susie today with a fake spider*. Abby is looking for Rob. Carol wants to see him. Rob wonders why.


 


Conversation A


(in the Jungle Café. Same day)


Jim:      Abby! Look! The company president just walked in!


Abby:   Really? Where? Where?


Jim:      April fool!


Abby:   Oh! You played a joke on me!


Jim:      Haha. Of course! Today is April Fools’ Day.


Abby:   Oh, that’s right! Do you often play pranks on people?


Jim:      Sometimes I do. But I’m careful*.


Abby:   Careful? Why are you careful?


Jim:      Because I don’t want to be mean. I don’t like mean pranks.


 


Conversation B


Rob:     Did you play a prank on anyone today, Taylor?


Taylor:  I played a joke on Susie with a fake spider*.


Rob:     April Fools’ Day can be  so much fun.


Taylor:  Yeah. It’s a great day to laugh with friends.


Rob:     Or at them.


Taylor:  Don’t play too many jokes on your friends.


Rob:     Why not?


Taylor:  Because they may play a prank on you!


Rob:     Don’t worry. People don’t fool me very often.


 


Conversation C


(in the studio)


Taylor: Hi, Abby. Are you looking for someone?


Abby:   Hi, Taylor. I’m looking for Rob.


Rob:     You’re looking for me? Why?


Abby:   Carol wants to see you.


Rob:     Oh, I wonder why. Did I do something wrong?


Taylor: I don’t know. But maybe you should go find out. (Rob walks away nervously)


Abby:   Haha. This prank is a great idea. 


Taylor: Yeah! It’s Alex and Susie’s idea.


Abby:   Now we all get the last laugh!
