  Alex is really excited. The new Avengers movie* is playing in the theater*. Who can he go with? Abby didn’t see the first movie. Alex can lend her the DVD. Jim can check his schedule. He likes the Avengers comic book. Susie likes superheroes. She and Taylor can go, too. They can tell Alex. He is buying tickets* soon.


 


Conversation A


(in the office)


Alex:     Guess what, Abby?


Abby:   What, Alex?


Alex:     The new Avengers movie* is playing in the theater*!


Abby:   Are you a fan of the Avengers?


Alex:     Yes! The first movie was really good!


Abby:   Oh, I didn’t see it.


Alex:     I can lend you the DVD.


Abby:   OK! Maybe we can watch the new movie next week.


Alex:     Sure! We can ask the others, too.


 


Conversation B


(in the Jungle Café)


Rob:     Hey, Jim. Do you like the Avengers?


Jim:      Hi, Rob. I do! I love the comic book.


Rob:     Did you see the new Avengers movie yet?


Jim:      No, not yet. Did you?


Rob:     No. Alex wants to see it next week. Can you come?


Jim:      Let me check my schedule.


Rob:     Sure! Let me know!


Jim:      OK.


 


Conversation C


(in the studio)


Taylor:  Hey, Susie. Are you going to the movies next week with Alex?


Susie:   I’m not sure. I don’t know a lot about the movie.


Taylor:  It’s an action movie.


Susie:   Are there superheroes in it?


Taylor: Yes. And they try to save the world.


Susie:   I like superheroes. OK. Maybe I can go.


Taylor: Tell Alex today. He is buying tickets* soon.


Susie:   OK.

  Alex bought a snack at the store. Can he eat it in the theater? No! In America*, you can’t bring your own food into the theater. The woman sitting behind Abby kept kicking* her chair. That’s rude*!

(at the theater)


Rob:     Hey, Alex! I was looking for you.Where is everyone?


Alex:     They’re all late, Rob. And the movie starts in 5 minutes!


Rob:     Oh, no! That’s not very polite*. Did anyone call you?


Alex:     Yes. Susie called. She's almost* here. I don’t know about Taylor and Abby. Did you see Jim?


Rob:     Jim is in the bathroom. We came together.


Alex:     Oh, OK. Maybe the girls will arrive soon.


 


Conversation B


Rob:     Let’s buy popcorn and candy.


Alex:     We don't need to. I bought a snack at the store.


Rob:     In America*, you can’t bring your own food into the theater.


Alex:     Oh, no. What can I do?


Rob:     Save it. You can eat it at home.


Alex:     OK. Let’s buy some popcorn.


Rob:     Don’t forget to turn off your phone, too.


Alex:     Look. The girls are here.


Rob:     Let’s go watch the movie.


 


Conversation C


(Next day in the Jungle Café)


Abby:   That was a great movie!


Taylor: I agree! I enjoyed it, too.


Abby:   But I didn’t like one thing.


Taylor: What was that?


Abby:   The woman behind me was kicking* my chair!


Taylor: Really? That’s so rude*!  What did you do?


Abby:   I told her to stop.


Taylor: I didn’t like one thing, too.


Abby:   What was that?


Taylor: Alex ate all the popcorn!
