Animals at a Zoo

   You can see many kinds of animals at a zoo. There are big animals, like elephants* and hippos*. There are little animals, like spiders and insects. Some animals don’t move much, like turtles* and snails. Other animals move a lot, like monkeys* and birds. Are you scared of any animals, like bears* or rats? Don’t worry. The zoo is a safe place! What is your favorite animal at the zoo?

Conversation A

Ken:     Oh, hi, Susie!
Susie:   Hi, Ken. What are you doing?
Ken:     I’m looking at pictures from my trip to the zoo.
Susie:   When did you go there?
Ken:     Yesterday. Look at this picture.
Susie:   Is that a hippo? It has a big mouth!
Ken:     It does. Hippos eat 100 pounds of food every day.
Susie:   That’s a lot!

Ken: 
    Elephants eat more. Some elephants eat 450 pounds each day.

Conversation B

Susie:   I like this picture of the monkeys. They
are my favorite animals at the zoo.
Ken:     Monkeys are fun.
Susie:   Are you petting a turtle in this picture?
Ken:     Yes. Some turtles can live 100 years.
Susie:   Wow!
Ken:     I love the bears at the zoo. They’re so calm.
Susie:   Calm? Really? I’m scared of bears.

Ken:
     Don’t be scared. The bears are at the zoo!
