The Missing Bike
腳踏車不見了
Peter Smith and Simon Stopps

August 19

The doorbell rings at my house. I open the front door. I see a little girl. She is crying*. "What is wrong?" I ask her. “My lovely* bike is missing,” she says. “I’m sorry. Tell me about your bike,” I say. She gives me some pictures of her bike. Then she stops crying and starts talking.

She always keeps her bike at home. She rides her bike every day. She loves her bike. I look at the pictures. The bike is small, thin* and green*. “Who wants your bike?” I ask. “Do you think someone has it?" She tells me about a boy named Dan. He might have her bike. He always takes her things.

We look for the bike. We go to Dan’s house. Dan is outside his house. He has a bike. The bike is small. It looks like the bike in the girl’s picture. But Dan’s bike is yellow. The girl’s bike is green. I look closely at Dan. I see yellow paint on his pants*. “We found your bike,” I say.
