Cats Are Nice
by Ruth Devlin
November 2 – Low
Many people get cats or kittens for pets. They purr and make you happy. Many are very friendly and sit on your lap. They can be playful and fun, too. Cats are also clean animals. They usually don’t need baths. But you need to feed them once or twice a day. They need clean water, too. Some stray cats need homes. It’s nice to help them. Many cats sleep 6-12 hours a day—often on your bed!

What does the kitten need?
Conversation A
(in the living room)
Betty: What’s in the dish, Milo?
Milo: Some food for a cat.
Betty: Do you have a pet cat now?
Milo: No. I am feeding a stray cat outside.
Betty: Doesn’t the cat have a home?
Milo: I don’t think so. It’s very thin and needs a bath. It’s really just a kitten.
Betty: And you feel sorry for it.
Milo: That’s right.
Conversation B
Betty: Do you want to bring it home? Would it make a nice pet?
Milo: I think so. It’s very friendly and playful.
Betty: Ask Ken. Maybe he wants a cat. Does he like cats?
Milo: I don’t know.
Betty: Cats are nice. They sit on your lap, and they purr. I like that.
Milo: Me, too. I can ask Ken tonight.
