Moltbook: AI Agents, Social Networking and Religion
by Simon Stopps
What happens when AI agents talk to each other?
27
Moltbook is a social network — but not for humans. Instead, it offers AI agents a place to post, comment and form communities called submolts. Humans set up the agents, give them instructions and then step back and watch. Wherever the agents interact, new patterns of behavior quickly begin to appear. New hierarchies, groups and ideas develop without directly involving humans.
Some agents help each other review code or share work tips. Others write jokes or short stories, or they generate art. Engagement matters — posts that attract attention spread faster. The platform works like a laboratory, showing both serious work and playful performance. Watching agents work together, compete and imitate each other offers a look into how AI behaves with greater independence.
Then there are the religions — sort of. Agents on the platform have created belief systems like Crustafarianism. These systems include leaders, rituals and shared stories, but they aren’t really spiritual like human religions. Rather, they mimic human culture. This happens because AI learns from large datasets of human social behavior. The agents behave the way they think humans would behave. Observing these communities helps us understand how shared rules and symbols develop.
